January - kashvireads #1

Not the best month for reading, but an excellent month for reflecting.

Hello! 👋🏽

Although this hasn’t been the best month for reading, it was definitely the month for taking a step back and contemplating the way forward.

I’ve been on a break from recording podcasts and writing full-length reviews because I wanted to analyse the bigger picture and reflect on what works (and what doesn’t) for all of you.

Now that I have a fairly decent understanding of that, I can’t wait to dive into reading and creating content again. Let’s review this month! 🤍

📚 What I’m reading:

  1. “The Marshmallow Test”, by Walter Mischel: Based on a Stanford experiment that derives conclusions about a person’s behaviour based on their ability to delay instant gratification.

  2. “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”, by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer: An epistolary novel (ie a book composed of letters written from one character to another) of the historical fiction genre.

  3. “Siddhartha”, by Herman Hesse: A short book about the spiritual journey of a man named Siddharta and his journey to self-discovery. It was originally written in German.

🎧 What I’m listening to:

  1. Kerning Cultures: Explores hidden gems, artists and their stories from the Middle East and North Africa. Their episode, “More Than A Buzz”, is about how coffee is more than just a drink or a source of caffeine. Kerning Cultures explores the tradition, culture, and spirituality of this simple bean.

  2. Finshots: A daily 5-minute podcast that explains the most important finance and business happenings of India in English.

🎶 January Playlist:

Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Benny Blanco and more…

💭 A quote that summarises this month:

“If you get tired, learn to rest. Not quit.” - Banksy

🌎 Interesting Links that you can explore:

  1.  GaryVee Roundtable With Highschool Students: When it comes to YouTube, I prefer long-form content that dives deep into a topic. This is one of those videos. Although it is 1 hr long, any high schooler who sits through the whole thing will extract major value from it 🤞🏽

  2. Other Things You Can Shout Into the Mirror Besides “Bloody Mary” If You Want Company During Quarantine: An article from The Newyorker that made me laugh 😂

  3. Stock Market Crash in 2021? Time to be Careful! : Avalon Meta has been one of my best discoveries this month. Top-notch content + Real-world wisdom for India’s curious minds. This video from 19th January 2021 was a massive reality check! 📉

  4. Free Yourself from What You “Should” Be Doing: The idea of putting yourself in a position to potentially fail can be frightening or stressful. But sometimes what’s keeping you in one spot may not be your own self-interest. This HBR article explores how what’s holding you back may be compliance, not comfort. 🙌🏽

  5. India, according to Kunal Shah: While Big Tech comes to South Asia for the elusive “next billion” users, the tech guru says his latest app caters to the 1%. Read on to know more about Kunal Shah, a humble investor and his vision for CRED. 💯
