🌈 The Creator Economy, 🌊 Imposter Syndrome, ⚡ Fantasy Fiction and More
Hello! 👋🏽
March ‘21 has been the month of moving beyond my comfort zone. Tiny leaps, forward & backwards, have been met with rightful consequences.
🆕 I signed up as a creator on an upcoming platform called “Avalon Voices" and have been conducting regular community sessions there! It's currently in Beta but I can't wait to share how amazing its been with you.
Overall, these 31 days have been all about pushing past limits and experimenting beyond the expected. Without any further ado, let's review March! ⚡
📚 What I'm reading:
“Radha & Jai's Recipe for Romance”, by Nisha Sharma: Teenage love, desi families & an undying passion for dance packed into a Young Adult fiction novel. Light-hearted read ideal for young readers. 💃🏽🕺🏽
“A Court of Rose and Thorns”, by Sarah J. Maas: The first title in a fantasy series that follows the journey of mortal Feyre Archeron after she is brought into the faerie lands of Prythian for murdering a faerie. 🐺
“Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys' Club of Silicon Valley”, by Emily Chang: Bloomberg TV journalist Emily Chang reveals how Silicon Valley got sexist despite its utopian ideals, why bro culture endures despite decades of companies claiming the moral high ground (Don't Be Evil! Connect the World!)--and how women are finally starting to speak out and fight back. 🚀Share kashvireads monthly wrap-up
🎧 What I’m listening to:
Sleepy Owl’s Journey: What started out as a desire for 3 young recently graduated Millenials to start a little venture has now blossomed into a homegrown company whose products are becoming a permanent part of shopping baskets, online carts and kitchen shelves across Indian households. This series of podcast episodes dives deep into their journey. ☕
Creating the Creator Economy: Li Jin is the founder and managing partner at an early-stage venture capital firm called Atelier. She's known for her extensive writings about the Passion Economy. Her essays explore how people can make a living from their passions and creative skills. All of her writing is filtered through the lens of consumer startups and the technology industry. In this episode, we hear about Li's perspective on the future of the creator economy. 🌈
Avalon Voices: A platform to speak your mind, to listen & learn from the best and at its simplest - a place to meet & hang out with like-minded people from all over India. To ensure the best conversations, Avalon Voices is a real-time audio app that only allows users who have been designated as "creators" to host a voice room. Grateful that I get to be a “creator” here alongside some amazing minds! 🗣️Leave a commentShare🎶 March Playlist:📖 Advice from Books:“How we interpret the events in our lives, our perspective, is the framework for our forthcoming response—whether there will even be one or whether we’ll just lie there and take it. Where the head goes, the body follows. Perception precedes action. Right action follows the right perspective. If an emotion can't change the condition or the situation you're dealing with, it is likely an unhelpful emotion. Or, quite possibly, a destructive one. But it's what I feel. Right, no one said anything about not feeling it.No one said you can't ever cry. Forget "manliness." If you need to take a moment, by all means, go ahead.Real strength lies in the control or, as Nassim Taleb put it, the domestication of one's emotions, not in pretending they don't exist.”- The Obstacle is the Way, by Ryan HolidayShare kashvireads monthly wrap-upLeave a comment
💭 A quote that summarises this month:
“If you’re not scared, then you’re not taking a chance. And if you’re not taking a chance, what the hell are you doing anyway?” - Ted Mosby, How I Met Your Mother
"If I were a physician, and if I were to prescribe just one remedy for all the ills of the world, it would be silence." - Søren Kierkegaard 📸 Photo of the Month: 🌎 Interesting Links that you can explore:
“Future Selves”, by Ayşegül Savaş: A fiction piece from The Newyorker magazine’s March 2021 issue. 🌆
Readwise.io: Readwise helps thousands of readers get the most out of their digital highlights. I’ve been using it to save Twitter threads and review notes for my reads. I highly recommend taking the free trial! 📘
We’re All Imposters, David Perell: If you only did things that you were ready to do, you would end up doing nothing. Once you realise that everyone is an imposter, you will also realise that no one is an imposter. This video, followed by a thread, encompass David Perell’s thoughts on how we advance our culture. 🤷🏽♀️
The Hustle Daily: A business and tech newsletter that is the perfect intersection of informative, witty and timely. It keeps me updated with all the relevant biz buzz in a really fun way! 🔮
‘The irony of desire in boxes’, by Saumya Kedia: Six poems to remind us of life (and death) on Zoom during Covid-19 by an Ashoka Alum and Entrepreneurial Fellow at DSH. ✏️
Justin Mikolay’s Creator Economy Thread: As you can probably tell, I am obsessed with learning about The Creator Economy. Last week, Naval Ravikant, Sahil & Ben Thompson had a Clubhouse conversation around it. This thread is a distillation of the whole thing! My favourite quote - “If you're overly concerned with the status hierarchy, you'll never be satisfied. But if you're fine with the wealth hierarchy and only need to hit a certain threshold, we can all get there.” 💡Share kashvireads monthly wrap-upLeave a comment🙏🏽 Thank you for reading, and for subscribing to this.
